Introduction
There’s never a dull moment in crypto-land. While markets traded sideways this past week, Crypto Twitter buzzed with drama related to revelations of high-profile anon 0xSifu’s true identity.
The episode underscores the tension between privacy and transparency in the industry. Some regulators and legislators see the culture of privacy, and think of crypto as filled with “shadowy supercoders.” What they miss is crypto’s culture of transparency. Because blockchains are public, savvy chain sleuths can spot fraud and misdeeds and hold perpetrators to account. Meanwhile, smart contracts make it possible to move from a “don’t be evil” to a “can’t be evil” framework.
These powers and tools are still new to us. How will they impact the way we work together? How will they change what it means to trust? As we all work towards building a better web, we’ll have to answer these questions and more.
The good news is, it’s a great opportunity for all the devs at D_D to build products that support privacy and transparency. Already, our community is working hard with this in mind. We’re launching a web3con to help onboard more devs to web3, we’re making sure our own community members are rewarded for their hard work, and more. Keep reading to learn about all the great work happening across the DAO right now.
This Week
Announcing web3con
Developer DAO is proud to announce that web3con, D_D’s inaugural conference, will be taking place between Feb 28th and Mar 6th (Feb 28th to Mar 4th: hackathon, Mar 5th and 6th: conference). It is a virtual hackathon and conference open to the general public, aiming to accelerate the impact of the next wave of builders in web3. If you want to attend, please register as an attendee or apply to speak at the event. We’re looking for speakers of all experience levels. If you’re a DAO member and would like to help with conference planning, join the #d_d-virtual_conf channel. For updates and announcements, follow @web3con on Twitter.
Contributor rewards
For DAO members: we’re collecting information – name, Ethereum address, and contribution details – in order to reward early D_D contributors via Coordinape. Even if you’ve already submitted your details in the contribution thread in #general, please submit them again via the form found in this announcement. Additionally, we’ll be holding a demo and Q&A session with the Coordinape team on Tuesday, Feb 1st, at 4:30pm UTC / 11:30am ET — RSVP in #d_d-events.
Project Highlight
Pixel Devs
Work is underway on a Polygon minting feature for the Pixel Avatars that creates a derivative NFT of your D_D Genesis Token, complete with a bling necklace! The team is also starting to brainstorm a "wearables" project and a game based on these derivatives. Visit the #derivatives-help-wanted channel to assist with the final bits before launch.
Guild News
Governance
Project Updates / Announcements
The Governance Guild is working on a proposal to modify the distribution of $CODE tokens allocated to future advisors. Under the new allocation, 1.55% of the tokens will go to sponsorships, which would allow D_D to welcome nearly 400 new members. For details and to provide feedback, check out the draft amendment proposal here.
Please vote here to formally recognize the Operations team that formed following the success of the initial Request For Comments. That proposed team will be led by Kempster and RyanCoordinator to start. It is expected that as D_D matures, new roles and teams will be needed in order to execute on Ops responsibilities.
Help Needed
The next Governance Guild bi-weekly sync is on Wednesday, February 2nd. Tune in to get caught up on everything going on and for ways to get involved.
