Introduction
The holidays are upon us! A number of our guilds and project teams are winding down for the new year (our newsletter team included). We encourage everyone to take this time to recharge in your own ways. Building a DAO is hard work and rest is an important part of the equation - especially for those of us burning the midnight oil to participate!
Many Developer DAO members were hoping to find some $CODE under the Christmas tree, but we’ll likely have to wait until 2022 for the much-anticipated governance token. The core team is approaching this important initiative with due caution; incorporating community feedback, and continuing to work towards a successful airdrop. With that in mind, it’s important not to let our excitement get the best of us. At least one fairly sophisticated imposter token is making the rounds. But don’t let the scammers get you down: there’s plenty of good news too!
Our various project teams continue to advance initiatives across the DAO, with Design Guild setting an example by moving their projects out of the guild and into public channels. The resulting increase in cross-guild participation is notable. At the same time, interest in sponsoring and partnership with D_D continues to outpace our onboarding processes. As our fledgling projects, events, and outlets mature we can continue to enjoy enthusiastic support from the Web3 community. Speaking of which, please welcome our newest sponsor: Protocol Labs!
A Word from our Sponsor: IPFS, powering the distributed web
No matter where you are or what you're creating, you can be part of the movement to create the next generation of the internet, starting with the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). IPFS is a peer-to-peer network protocol for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system, with addresses based on content, not location. Check out these resources to learn about key concepts, try out how-to guides, see API and CLI references, or just install IPFS and get hacking.
This Week
Beware of fake $CODE tokens
We’re paying the price of getting popular and have become the target of scammers. Beware of a fake $CODE token contract, don’t interact with it, and ignore tokens you might have been airdropped. Be sure to check #announcements for news of the ERC-20 release before trusting anything you see in the wild. If you see a fake token listed on any platform, please report it to the D_D core team as well as wherever you see it listed!
Gitcoin partnership snapshot vote
The proposal for partnership and mutual grant with Gitcoin passed the Forum vote and is now up for Snapshot voting. Please cast your votes until Dec 22.
As a reminder, here’s a brief summary of the proposal:
Upon D_D’s ERC-20 token issuance, 5% of the tokens will be granted to Gitcoin in exchange for 50,000 GTC, Gitcoin’s native token
D_D and Gitcoin will partner to bring more developers into web3 and to create and support public goods
Some concrete examples of the benefits of a partnership between the two DAOs: allowing developers to have a voice in the future direction of Gitcoin via the GTC allocation to D_D; collaboration on workshops, events, and hackathons; improved shared bandwidth between Gitcoin and D_D teams, and many others.
Let’s talk about mental well-being
After a very well-received session on burnout hosted by emm last week, we’re gearing up for another wellness conversation. Tell us your preferred times and topic in #dao-polls, and make sure to check out the #mental-health channel in Discord for an ongoing discussion on mental wellbeing.

Announcements
As the Holidays are fast approaching and in order to build healthy, burn-out resistant practices into our workflows, the newsletter team has decided to take next week off. We will return in the New Year with the next issue of Probably Nothing.
Existing Project Updates
The proposal submission window for the D_D Publishing Platform is now closed. Ghost CMS and Hashnode are the two major contenders. We were also given early access to Hashnode’s new Team Publication feature so we can fully evaluate it as an option.
New Initiatives
A new translation tool is in development that will make it easier for the DAO to localize our written resources. This could potentially evolve into a tool that becomes standard for DAOs and a public good provided by D_D.
Help Needed
As the already large list of projects outside of specific guilds is growing, we are requesting help to keep track of them and provide updates we can include in the newsletter. If you are part of one of those projects and would like to start contributing to the newsletter or the upcoming blog, please stop by the #📰-newsletter channel and say hi! You’ll find a sign-up sheet where you can claim your preferred news beat.
