Introduction
Lately, it feels like our little corner of the internet has been firing on all cylinders. We are in the midst of voting to formally establish an operations team, we’re launching and planning our inaugural web3con conference, and we are planning IRL meetups in ETHDenver later this month. It’s magical to see internet frens working together to build this DAO from scratch. We hope it warms your hearts as much as it warms ours. Especially given how Web3 can feel impossible to keep up with… your friends and family are scratching their heads wondering why you quit (or want to quit) your lucrative Web2 job, and the right-click-savers in your life are relentless.
It’s the hard part about decentralization. With no one in charge, all the responsibility lies with us. We have to decide what’s important, what’s not, and why. There’s no one telling us what to do and, even better, what not to do.
No one, for example, can keep a group of strangers from coming together in a chat server and building a DAO to educate a new wave of Web3 builders ;)
As always, keep reading for updates and requests for help from across D_D. And remember, if Web3 got you down, you have thousands of D_D compatriots standing strong beside you.
Sponsor
Blockchains are great for identity management and finance, but if Web3 wants to offer social media or gaming experiences, a native Web3 messaging protocol is needed. The Streamr Network offers real-time data availability for Web3 developers through its serverless and free to use peer-to-peer architecture. We invite you to learn more, apply for a grant to build, and join the growing ecosystem of serverless dApps building on Streamr.
This Week
Formalizing an Operations Team
The proposal to formally recognize a D_D Ops team passed the forum vote and is up for snapshot voting until Feb 11th. The Ops team will help us tackle large operational challenges and will streamline processes within the DAO.
Genesis NFT == non-voting membership
Another snapshot vote will determine if the Genesis NFT will continue to provide access into the DAO even after the governance token is created. This vote concludes on Feb 14th.
web3con sponsor opportunities
As announced last week, web3con, D_D’s inaugural conference, is taking place virtually between Feb 28th and Mar 6th. Register to attend at no cost here. Sponsor opportunities still remain for Silver, booth, & T-shirt levels. For more information, check out web3con’s sponsor page.
Recurring wellness sessions
D_D member @emm will continue leading recurring wellness sessions on Mondays (during Town Hall weeks) or Fridays (during non-Town Hall weeks). Topics range from goal setting to combatting FOMO. For more information and to RSVP, head to #d_d-events.
ETHDenver D_D social event
If you are planning to attend ETHDenver, make sure to stop by and say hi at D_D’s IRL event! It will take place on Fri, Feb 18th, 7pm-11pm, at Hudson Hill. We’ve partnered with some top notch sponsors to host this event. Stay tuned to the DAO social channels for more details this week.

Ecosystem
Wormhole, a bridge between the Ethereum and Solana chains, was hacked for $320M last week. A bug in the bridge allowed the attacker to mint 120K wETH on the Solana side out of thin air, and successfully bridge the fake wETH back to Ethereum. Crypto trading firm Jump Capital backstopped the exploit.
After months of uncertainty, India has legalized crypto. The country will tax digital asset sales at a rate of 30%, and plans to release its own CBDC later this year.
The launch of Solana Pay will soon enable customers to transact with merchants via digital assets on the blockchain. The new payments protocol “provides a specification that allows the consumer to send digital dollar currencies, such as USDC, from their wallet directly into the merchant’s account.”
Polygon raises $450M from Sequoia Capital India, SoftBank and Tiger Global. The deal values the L2 provider at $13 billion.
