This Week

D_D Meetup at Permissionless

If you are heading to Permissionless in Palm Beach this week, join us at 6pm on May 19th for a D_D meet-up at True Food Kitchen, West Palm Beach. To keep in touch with fellow D_D members, check out the #Permissionless2022 thread under #external-events in Discord, or join this Telegram group.

Travel Sponsorship for Graph Day

Thanks to the generous support of Spruce ID, we are able to offer three travel sponsorships for Graph Day to active members who are financially constrained. If you think you qualify and are interested in applying, please fill out this form. For any questions, hop into the #travel-sponsorship channel in Discord.

Help Us Overhaul Discord and DAO Roles

We are in the process of reviewing current members and Discord flow. The goal is to update the infrastructure so that channels are visible depending on assigned roles, allowing members to stay up-to-date without becoming overwhelmed. To share inputs and suggestions, please join the #ask-anything–in-a-thread channel, where you’ll see a thread for each Guild.

Early Contributor Reward Strategy Finalized

We have now finalized the strategy for $CODE distribution to early contributors; you can find an overview of the main points, stats as well as distribution per member in this spreadsheet. Please bring up any issues in #coordinape-disputes.

Stop "experimenting" with ponzis, algostables, yield farming and other unsustainable nonsense. Start experimenting with public goods funding, governance/DAOs, decentralized identity/reputation, regenerative finance and privacy tools. This is the gwei.

Project Highlight

The Probably Nothing newsletter (yes, this newsletter) team put together the first budget submission for $CODE funding in Season 1. You can read the proposal here. Feedback is welcome and highly encouraged. Our motivation for putting this proposal together is two-fold: of course, we would like to sustain the team that puts together this publication, but we also wanted to break the ice. We expect many more budget proposals for equally deserving projects and wanted to get discussion going on what proposals should look like and what the membership would like to see funded. Please feel free to reach out to the @newsletter team if you are need a push towards submitting your own proposal.

Guild News

Governance

Project Updates / Announcements

  • The Governance Guild is gearing up for Season 1! A few points have become the main focus, such as the guild budget, a new proposed structure with some new roles, further decentralization of the DAO, and of course, the $CODE token launch.

Help Needed

  • With new roles comes new responsibility! The Governance Guild is looking for someone to take on the position of Project Manager to help keep things organized and efficient. If this interests you, stop by the #💬-gov-discussion-public channel and say hi!

Member Highlights

  • Thanks to isiah.eth for expressing interest in the Governance Steward role,

  • DOSWΞLL.ΞTH for stepping up to champion further decentralization efforts, and

  • trai.eth for their interest in helping lead a research and education effort around DeGov and various governance strategies.

Designers

Project Updates / Announcements

  • The #education-platform, now named D_D School of Code, has created three teams to help organize and split the required work into categories. The new Development, Content, and UX Research teams are now working together to make this incredible initiative a reality, with a $CODE budget and an application for a Gitcoin Grant in the works. Join their weekly sync on Wednesdays for more information or to get involved.

Help Needed

  • The School of Code project will need a lot of help with UI/UX soon. If you’ve got some experience or want to help out in other ways, stop by the #education-platform channel.

Member Highlights

  • Shout out to 0xChristiaan for the sweet new banner for Town Hall meetings!

Community

Project Updates / Announcements

  • The #travel-sponsorship team and SpruceID want to send you to The Graph Day on June 2nd, 2022, in San Francisco! For more information and to fill out the application form, check out the #travel-sponsorship channel.

  • DeWork may fill the role for handling project management and bounties. A guide on using it will be coming sometime this week, so keep an eye out for that. If anyone has issues using the tool, please DM kempsterrrr, and he will get you sorted.

Help Needed

  • The #👫-onboarding team aims to streamline the member and channel flow to make it less overwhelming to navigate Discord. To that end, they are planning to start with overhauling the roles we are all assigned. There are currently many, and some may be unnecessary. To have a say in how this proceeds, check out the #🙋‍♀️-ask-anything—in-a-thread channel and let us know which roles should be kept or added and why.

  • The #👫-fellowships-program to welcome members of underrepresented groups into our community is shaping up! The Community Guild is looking for a few people from underrepresented/marginalized groups to help finesse the details and get involved as elected committee members. Diverse representation is essential to ensuring all voices and points of view are considered. If you would like to contribute to this great initiative, stop by the #👫fellowships-program channel for more info.

Member Highlights

  • Massive kudos this week to BluePanda, who’s only been a D_D member for a short while but already making impactful contributions!

  • Also, thanks to Clavis for all the work towards group onboarding calls!

  • Big shouts to luan, Alex1237, wiseTy, and hmz for continuing to put in such great work to important community initiatives!

Writers

Project Updates / Announcements

  • The first Season 1 budget proposal is currently in draft form on the forum and pertains to this newsletter! This proposal covers how the newsletter is beneficial to the DAO and proposes an hourly compensation in $CODE for contributors. Please give it a read and let us know what you think!

Help Needed

  • As Season 1 draws near, the Writers Guild is focusing on getting a robust scribe program built to help inform the community on what’s happening at meetings across the DAO. A new onboarding flow is in the works, but we still need more scribes! It’s an excellent way for people to learn about the inner workings of D_D and to meet some new friends along the way! If you’d like to step up as a scribe or help develop the improved scribe initiative, stop by the #📝-scribes-start-here channel.

Member Highlights

  • Huge shoutout to Colin4ward for putting together the first Season 1 budget proposal!

Marketing + BizDev

Project Updates / Announcements

  • A Developer DAO meetup in Palm Beach for the Permissionless Conference is booked! On May 19th, 6 pm at True Food Kitchen, Rosemary Square, D_D members can meet for an evening of great food and conversation.

Help Needed

  • A new #agency-dao initiative is in the works. A consulting team may be formed to handle offering development services to external entities. With 5000 builders, D_D can offer a lot of talent to fill the high demand across the ecosystem. To get involved and help define the structure of this initiative, stop by the #agency-dao channel.

Member Highlights

  • Big thanks to MichelleBakels and everyone in the “Permissionless 2022” thread for putting together the upcoming meetup!

Development

Project Updates / Announcements

  • Check out the latest Dev & Tell session on Charisma Social! You can view this and all prior Dev & Tell presentations on the Developer DAO YouTube channel. To sign up to host your own presentation or to get more info, head to the #dev-n-tell channel.

Help Needed

  • This is your reminder to check out the #issues-feed channel to quickly find ways to contribute. Issues from the Developer DAO GitHub account get posted here regularly, so grab one that looks good to you and get coding!

Member Highlights

  • Thanks to 0xJoyce for the great Dev & Tell presentation!
